QUIRKS Facial expressions and some mannerisms of mine were recently brought up to me as something that someone found irritating. The interesting thing is that this person also has some facial expressions and mannerisms that I find irritating. It was nice to have a good talk to work out some of the differences, but the truth is that many things we do are our own quirks and differences that … [Read more...]
EVERYONE is SOMEONE SPECIAL
Worshipping God in church is one way our non-verbal 40-year-old son shares about Jesus. We could not even count over these years the many people who’ve said, “Joey takes me to the throne of God in worship.” It’s true. He sings, closes his eyes (we hold his arm to stabilize his wobbling balance), raises his hands, and pays no attention to anyone who might be “watching him”. He has a direct line to … [Read more...]

Because I wanted every person around the table to recognize and realize that I: Meant business Had my child’s best interest at hand Had everything documented Would have … [Read more...]
Interruptions, Privacy, and Time Alone
“Thundering. Sleep with you?” He’s 40. We move over and he slides into our queen sized bed because we are just too tired to make more of an effort; but if we can muster up the energy, one of us walks him back to his room (upstairs) and will sleep with him for a while until the storm subsides. It might seem weird that a 40 year old will want to be comforted by us; but you must think “age 3”…then it … [Read more...]
