Depression, a Dog, and a Difficult Grace

May 20, 2016 by Sandra Peoples 4 Comments

While I was gardening recently, our dog raced by me in her typical Secretariat sort-of way. As the blades of grass bent in her wake, I smiled that we ended up with this amazing, energetic pup. Her name is Grace and she is the result of my daughter’s search for a “big mellow dog” to comfort her as she struggled with anxiety and depression as a teenager. Ha! Grace is a medium-sized, super-active … [Read more...]

When God Gives You More Than You Can Handle

April 29, 2016 by Sandra Peoples 11 Comments

“God never gives you more than you can handle.” I see people type that around the Internet. I hear them say it to others. It’s plastered on t-shirts and notepads. As a special needs parent, I don’t believe it. You see, I’ve faced a lot I can’t handle over the last eight years. On my own, I can’t handle Aspergers syndrome/high-functioning autism, whatever you want to call it. On my own I can’t … [Read more...]

Her husband had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis only a few months earlier. The progress of the disease meant he would soon give up his job. She had just signed a teaching contract to support her family. Then … [Read more...]

When something heartbreaking happens in our life we may start to experience some shame. Especially if we thought we could have done something to prevent it from happening. Whether you are a new special needs parent or you’ve been on the journey a while shame always loves to come knocking. The enemy loves to build a wall of shame and put our pictures on it. Every time we see that wall, he wants to … [Read more...]

The Land of Giants

December 29, 2015 by notaloneparents 1 Comment

Read below for a guest post from Sheila Temple. When Joshua was brought to the forefront to lead the Israelites, after the death of Moses, I am sure he had a lot of questions but also, a lot of faith. When Joshua sent spies out into the new land to scope it out, I can see from his human perspective that the action seemed important. I also know that God had already promised him victory and the … [Read more...]
